Johnny Cardoso has already received interest from one English Premier League side and reportedly now has a new club in the mix.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have expressed interest in acquiring Cardoso this month from Real Betis, Relevo reported. The clubs have begun talks over a potential transfer of the U.S. men’s national team midfielder, but a lot still has to be agreed upon, per the report.

Cardoso was linked with a potential move to Tottenham last summer, with the North London club reportedly securing a first priority option to acquire him in the near future. However, the 23-year-old remained in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this winter, playing a key role in the club’s involvement in three separate competitions.

The New Jersey native has made 42 combined appearances for Real Betis since his move from Internacional last season, scoring two goals and adding three assists. He previously admitted his excitement in growing interest from other European clubs for his services.

“This [transfer interest] motivates me even more to continue working, evolving and seeking to achieve great goals. It has been a very special year, with a lot of learning and development. I have adapted very well here,” Cardoso said in an interview with Marca.

“I think I have gained more experience, I have improved as an athlete both technically and tactically and I continue to evolve. I am still working to get better and better,” he added.”

Both Tottenham and Wolves have struggled in Premier League play this season, with both clubs sitting in the bottom-six of the league table. Tottenham sits in 15th place on 24 points while Wolves are in 17th, sitting outside of the relegation zone on goal differential.
