Chelsea dealt blow as extent of N’Golo Kante’s hamstring injury sustained against Tottenham Hotspur comes to light

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is expected to be out for a month after injuring his hamstring against Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues star was forced off in the 84th minute after a tangle with Spurs’ Yves Bissouma, and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel had ‘no good news’ by Sunday night after the game. However, he’s expected to miss the next three or four weeks, meaning he misses the Blues’ matches against Leeds United, Leicester City, Southampton, West Ham United and Fulham. The 31-year-old has just 12 months left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, and his injury history could mean new owner Todd Boehly will need to assess offering him a new contract. Kante’s absence will however offer an opportunity to Chelsea academy graduate and England international Conor Gallagher to step up and take a regular place in the Blues’ midfield. The 22-year-old came on as a substitute for the injured Kante in Sunday’s eventual draw against Spurs. After an impressive stint at Crystal Palace last season, now could be the perfect time for Gallagher to prove he deserves a place in Tuchel’s go-to XI.
