Manchester City have verbally agreed a £47.2million [€55m] deal with Wolves for midfielder Matheus Nunes.

The Citizens had a bid rejected by Gary O’Neil’s side to sign the 25-year-old last week.

It led the Portugal international to go on strike as he refused to train with his teammates in his quest to force through a transfer to the Etihad.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding his future, he was left out of the squad for Wolves‘ Carabao Cup second round win over Blackpool on Tuesday night.

And talkSPORT understands that a verbal agreement between City and the Molineux outfit has now been struck.

The Midlands giants will pocket a small profit on Nunes having signed him from Sporting Lisbon last year.

They had forked out an initial £38m on the player in a deal rising to £42.2m if add-ons were met.

In a separate deal, City midfielder Tommy Doyle will be linking up with Wolves on loan for the remainder of the season.

Wolves will have the option to turn his temporary stay into a permanent switch for £5m.

City have also insisted on a significant sell-on clause for Doyle, with Wolves to pay all of his wages during the loan period.

The 21-year-old, who joined City’s academy at the age of eight in 2009, has appeared in seven competitive games under Pep Guardiola.

But he hasn’t played for City since the 2020/21 campaign, with the player enjoying loan spells at Hamburg, Cardiff and Sheffield United.

During his loan with the Blades last season, he helped them secure automatic promotion to the Premier League – chipping in with three goals and four assists in 33 Championship matches.

He then won the Under-21 European Championships with the Young Lions in July where he came off the bench in the final victory over Spain.
