The Glazer family have held preliminary discussions regarding the sale of a minority stake in Manchester United. According to Bloomberg, the owners would consider selling shares in the club as pressure mounts from supporters of the club. While the Glazer family have declined to comment and the identity of potential new investor remains confidential, this will no doubt be reassuring news for supporters of the Red Devils. Having been bought by Malcolm Glazer in a leveraged buyout in 2005, United have been saddled with massive debts leading the club to lose it’s reputation as the biggest football club in the Premier League. Fans have been left angry and upset with the club’s current owners, the Glazer family, whom they believe are bleeding the club dry through huge debts, poor strategic appointments through the club’s hierarchy and a lack of investment both on and off the field. As a result, United find themselves playing in the Europa League this term, instead of Europe’s biggest competition, the Champions League where rivals Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham will be competing with the biggest and best clubs in European football. Supporters are desperate for the Glazer family to sell their football club, and according to football agent Jon Smith, the club could be sold in the next two years. There are people circling. “The fact of the matter is that there are six siblings who are currently in the ownership, that’s a big number to get everyone to walk out in a straight line together, so it may or may not [happen]. “I just get the feeling from the people over there that it they get a sentiment that it may be an option. “Here’s another addendum to that. Who knows what the Chelsea takeover cost, £2billion a change? A lot of the £3billion to £4billion was loan paybacks and various other things that were bolted on, but it was probably £2.5billion, heading towards £3billion, which kind of rerates Arsenal and Liverpool and the others. “On a global income basis, nothing touches Manchester United, they’re in a league of their own.” Offer Of The Day BET365 NEW CUSTOMERS: Bet £10 Get £50 in free bets* – CLAIM HERE PADDY POWER ALL CUSTOMERS: Bet £5 via the talkSPORT EDGE app with Paddy Power and get a £5 free bet – available to all customers* – CLAIM HERE Paddy Power All Customers: Place a £5 Sportsbook Bet through the talkSPORT EDGE app between the 1st and 31st August.
