Feutmba: Shalulile can still make it in England

Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Roger Feutmba believes that Peter Shalulile still has what it takes to succeed in Europe and has urged him to follow in the footsteps of Marshall Munetsi.

The Namibia international has played a starring role for the Brazilians as they continue to dominate in the Betway Premiership, winning numerous awards since his arrival at Chloorkop from Highlands Park in September 2020.

Shalulile has helped Bafana Ba Style to five consecutive league titles, scooping the Golden Boot in 2021-22 and 2022-23, while he also finished top scorer in the 2022-23 CAF Champions League.

Feutmba, who plied his trade in Belgium with KV Kortrijk before signing for Masandawana in 1996, insists the 31-year-old striker has the attributes to make a name for himself overseas, perhaps even in the Premier League.

The former Cameroon international cited Munetsi as an example after the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder joined Wolves during the January transfer window following a four-and-a-half-year spell with Reims in France.

“Even before he joined Sundowns, Shalulile could have gone to Europe and would have made it there,” Feutmba told Soccer Laduma.

“You know Sundowns don’t just buy any player, they buy quality. That means he was a top striker even before joining Sundowns. He has shown his potential that he can play anywhere and score goals.

“He has contributed to the growth of Sundowns and that has seen him winning the top goalscorer as well as Player of the Season awards and that quality is good enough for him to play in Europe, and even in England. Even now, he can still play in the English Premier League.

“If you see how Munetsi started after leaving Orlando Pirates, going to France and now at Wolves, it proves that he has what it takes and the same could have been to Peter, but as I have said, maybe it was not his choice at that time or no good offers came through.

“But it’s not too late, he can still make it in England, even now.”
