Arsenal hold talks for £50m Tottenham target, Henry said is 'one of the best' in Ligue 1
Arsenal are one of three Premier League teams to hold talks for Lyon star Lucas Paqueta in ‘recent weeks’ – a player that Thierry Henry said during the 2021-22 campaign is one of the best players in Ligue 1 football.
Paqueta, 24, had a hand in 18 goals last season – producing another superb campaign on a personal level. But as a club, Lyon struggled defensively. Conceding 51 goals in their 38 league games, they finished in a lowly eighth.
It might tempt Paqueta – who has a price tag of £50million – to leave this summer. Reports state that Arsenal, along with Tottenham and Manchester City, have held talks to sign Paqueta in ‘recent weeks’. But nothing more.
Speaking about Paqueta on Amazon Prime Video Sport, Arsenal legend Henry said that the 33-time Brazil international is one of the best players in Ligue 1. “I like dribbling and blind passes, but what I like is his desire, his activity, his selflessness, his commitment. In general, this is not the case with all Brazilians,” Henry told Amazon Prime Video Sport in October 2021, as per Foot Radio.
“What impresses me with this player is that he does both with a smile. He defends and attacks with a smile. For me, that’s why we can already speak of one of the best players in the championship.”

What a signing Paqueta would be for Arsenal. The Brazilian is a no.10, but he can play out wide or slightly deeper in midfield. With the Gunners requiring depth as they embark on a Europa League campaign, Paqueta is perfect.
Not least, because the squad is littered with Brazilian’s, and Portuguese-speaking talent. Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel, Gabriel Jesus, Edu, Cedric Soares, Fabio Vieira and more. Paqueta would be right at home.
But having spent north of £80million this summer, could Edu really go out and splash another £50million? Perhaps, the club need to sell some players first – the likes of Lucas Torreira and other fringe players.
