‘Jolly up’: Eric Dier mocks Arsenal and Newcastle duo in training

Tottenham defender Eric Dier mocked Arsenal, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest trio, Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson for having a ‘jolly up in England training.

Towards the end of a goalkeeping session for Ramsdale, Pope and Henderson, they proceeded to see who could volley the ball furthest into the net, alongside their gaolkeeping coach, Martyn Margetson.

That’s when Spurs centre-back Dier walked into the action and he couldn’t help but take a dig at his England teammates.

Whilst modern football is evolving and goalkeepers are becoming more involved in the game and also being part of training sessions with outfield players.

The old school methods of keepers training away from the rest of their teammates hasn’t changed for some.

And when Dier proceeded to dig at England’s trio, he was met with a firm answer from the goalkeeping coach, as footage showed on England’s official YouTube account.

“Every time I see keepers, they are always having a jolly up,” said Dier whilst speaking to Ramsdale. “It’s unbelievable.”

Dier is then told by goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson: “You just missed the 400 saves, Eric.”

Well, defenders and goalkeepers were the talk of the town following England’s UEFA Nations League games against Italy and Germany.

Defeat in Milan saw the Three Lions suffer relegation from their group, whilst they fought to a 3-3 draw against the Germans at Wembley on Monday night.

Southgate opted to select Nick Pope, who is covering for the injured Jordan Pickford, in between the sticks.

And it’s fair to say he had a game to forget, especially given that he spilt Serge Gnabry’s tame effort late on, which was pounced on by Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.

All in all, with the 2022 World Cup up next for nations from across the world, England have more questions than answers.
