Report: Club open talks for £15m Newcastle, Tottenham target; likely to leave English side
CalcioMercato claim AC Milan have opened talks to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz – despite interest from both Newcastle and Tottenham. Luiz has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Villa Park.
Luiz, 24, joined Aston Villa from Manchester City back in 2019 for £15m (BBC) – clocking up 111 appearances since then. He has broken into the Brazil squad and is considered one of the best holding midfielders outside of the top six.
Such is, the level of clubs interested in his services. Reports state that Newcastle have added Luiz to their summer shortlist, while Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is an admirer of the Brazilian ball-player.Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best moveRobin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22
However, a move to another Premier League side looks increasingly unlikely. That is after a report from CM states that Serie A champions AC Milan have opened talks with Villa over a move to land the midfielder this summer.

So, what is his best move? Stay at Villa, join Newcastle, Tottenham or go to Italy with Milan? Well, Spurs would be a poor move for Luiz. While they are in the Champions League, he would hardly get regular game time.
Yves Bissouma has joined, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp remain. Harry Winks is due to go, but Luiz would arguably be fourth or fifth choice. Newcastle is a different story.
They need a holding midfielder – with their best option currently Jonjo Shelvey. A superb signing, if possible. Milan too, given there is more room for Luiz and they are in the Champions League. A Villa exit is likely.
