Armando Broja injury may not be as bad as feared at Everton

Possible good news?

Chelsea loanee Armando Broja finally got to make his season debut for Everton last month, and was making his sixth appearance for the club on Thursday when he came on for the final 25 minutes of their FA Cup third round victory over Peterborough United.

Unfortunately for the young striker, his day would end on a stretcher, with his right leg in an air cast, and everyone fearing the worst. The 23-year-old had missed most of the season to that point with an Achilles issue, and spent all of last season trying to get back to his pre-injury levels after an ACL tear cost him most of 2023.

Thankfully, newly reappointed Everton manager David Moyes had some not-terrible news in today's press conference.

"He is going for another scan. I think there's a little bit of mixed [feeling] — one moment we're not thinking it's not too bad, so that's why we're doubling up [with the scans]. We're just waiting on a bit of swelling to go down before he goes for a scan and hopefully we'll get a better idea in the next few days."

So that may still turn out to be bad, but perhaps not nearly as tragic as first thought?

Everton do have an option to make the loan permanent at the end of the season, but right now let's just hope that Broja's injury is indeed less serious than initially feared.
