Report shares bad transfer news for Leeds & Everton about 'talent' Gary Lineker praised
The Telegraph claim that newly-promoted Forest, who are nearing a spend of £150 million this summer, are set to meet the asking price for Gibbs-White.
The 22-year-old was loaned out to Sheffield United last season, where ironically enough, his missed penalty helped Forest into the play-off final, before they sealed their long-awaited return by beating Huddersfield Town at Wembley.
Steve Cooper’s side aren’t here to see the bright lights and admire those around them, but to compete and be serious about staying in the division, and if this Gibbs-White deal goes through, then it will be a club-record transfer for the club.
Forest haven’t been the only ones chasing Gibbs-White’s signature because this is now bad news for interested parties Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Everton.
They are set to miss out on the attack-minded player, who was once bigged up by Gary Lineker on Match of the Day, when he labelled him a ‘talent’ and told supporters to ‘remember the name’.
Steve Cooper has worked with Gibbs-White before – at Swansea City – but the fact of the matter is that he still hasn’t produced the goods on the Premier League stage.
Gibbs-White started Wolves’ opening day defeat to Leeds on Saturday and from his 47 games in England’s top-flight, he has one goal and one assist.
There is no doubt that added English tax is on this possible £40 million transfer and a big risk from the newly-promoted side.
But whilst clubs like Leeds and Everton could have done with a player of Gibbs-White’s potential and presence in their team.
The talk in their boardrooms might be the fact that £40 million is well overpriced for the player, but then again, the market has gone crazy, inflated and there are no signs of it stopping.
