Nottingham Forest fought tooth and nail to try and sign a new striker during the January transfer window but in the end, the club’s efforts proved to be fruitless.

Yoane Wissa was a big target for Forest. However, Brentford didn’t want to lose their main striker in the mid-season window and the Reds were left disappointed in their efforts.

Arsenal and Forest eyed a move for Igor Jesus from Botafogo too. However, he wants to remain in Brazil, feeling he owes the reigning champions another year after a 25-goal hail during a fruitful 2024.

Signing a new striker was always going to be tricky. Chris Wood has been praised by Alan Shearer this season and he’s in the form of his life playing as the centre-forward in Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Forest could now beat Arsenal to Matheus Cunha signing

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest shouldn’t be discounted in the race to sign Cunha in the summer. Arsenal are also loitering for the Wolves star with the Gunners certain to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

Forest chased Cunha in January. However, Wolves managed to persuade the player to sign a new contract with a £62.5 million release clause that will become active during the summer.

Romano told Give Me Sport not to discount Forest from being in the mix to sign him even if Arsenal retain their interest, citing that Evangelos Marinakis is going to flex his ambition again in the summer.

Cunha would be amazing Forest signing

On Sunday, Cunha took his tally of goals to 12 for the 2024/25 campaign with a wonderful striker against EFL outfit Blackburn Rovers as Wolves progressed in the FA Cup.

The 25-year-old talisman has been in fine form this season and clearly Forest have placed the versatile forward on the radar ahead of a big summer transfer window.

Morgan Gibbs-White has already endorsed the signing of Cunha. The pair were at Wolves together and perhaps it would be a quality addition in the sense that a proven Premier League player would be coming to the club.
