14/02/2025 10:27
Celtic are set to blow Rangers away this summer during the summer transfer window as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his squad.
Speaking on the latest edition ofFootball Insider's Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that the Scottish giants could "go out and spend big in the summer."
The Hoops have performed well in the Champions League which has helped the club financially by earning them £38million in prize money, and Rodgers is now looking to inject that cash back into his team.
Aberdeen's former CEO Keith Wyness exclusively revealed to Football Insider that he expects Celtic to make two "marquee signings" during the summer transfer window.
Rodgers wants to enhance his squad in a bid to push the team even further in European football moving forward.
Football Insider revealed that the Celtic boss is keen to sign a like-for-like replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi who they lost in January, which could be a focal point of their summer transfer business.
Rangers could struggle in the transfer window
While Celtic are looking to splash the cash in the summer they could end up blowing their Old Firm rivals away and extending the gap between them.
Rangers are in a tough spot financially after the 2023-24 accounts were released and revealed their net losses increased by £4.1million to £17.2million.
Football Insider revealed that Rangers were limited to loan signings during the January window due to the finances available, and that's something that could impact the club even further in the summer.
Celtic could break British transfer records
"Well, the potential is definitely there for Celtic to go out and spend big in the summer, as you said they have made good money from their run into the Champions League," Robinson told Football Insider.
"Although they lost Kyogo in the January transfer window without replacing him, they got close to £10 million.
"Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that the Celtic par brokers do allow him to go out and spend and maybe break a few transfer records.
"They broke a couple in the summer window bringing in Adam Idah and then Arne Engels as well.
"Brendan Rodgers has been pretty public in saying that he wants backing from the club because he has got big plans for Celtic going forward.
"The problem for Celtic is, being playing in Scotland, it might be harder to persuade some of those top players.
"Celtic are progressing and looking like they can compete with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, that’ll be a huge pull for players as well.
"The gap right now between Celtic and Rangers financially is getting bigger and bigger, so Celtic will be hoping to capitalise on that.
"I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will have an extensive shopping list as he looks to reshape that Celtics squad in the summer if he wants to continue to build on his current success."
