Insider: Man United 'ruined' by INEOS after 'disgraceful' decision - 'I'm amazed by this'

Man United are suffering as a direct result of “total mismanagement” by INEOS and the ownership as more controversy is expected to follow shortly.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at the club during their most successful period, as he exclusively told Football Insider that constant behind-the-scenes mistakes have led to a “disgraceful” situation.

This comes after the latest controversial decision, with INEOS planning to offload as many as 200 more employees, having dismissed a previous 250 already.

Many of those members of staff, Brown explained, were hand-picked by Sir Alex Ferguson and were key to the club’s success over the last 30 years.

However, the cuts have been explained away by the owners as being necessary to help balance the books – ignoring the millions spent on failed transfer fees and player wages.

Brown previously warned Football Insider that United fans could turn on the ownership amid ongoing protests at Old Trafford in the wake of a number of shocking decisions.

Alongside the continued cost-cutting exercises and staff cuts, the owners have also continued to increase the cost of match tickets and removed concession prices.

INEOS slammed for new wave of Man United staff cuts

Football Insider exclusively revealed in December that INEOS were forced to backtrack on a decision to revoke privileges given to the families of the Busby Babes at Old Trafford.

Brown, who remains very well-connected at United and worked closely with Sir Alex Ferguson during his time at the club, has been heavily critical of the ownership and insists they have “ruined a world-famous football club”.

The whole thing has been totally mismanaged, it’s almost laughable,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m astounded that INEOS have come in and made the decisions that they have, and to a large extent they’ve gotten away with it.

“People brush it off like ‘it’s up to them’, but they have ruined a world-famous football club.

“A large portion of the people who worked there over the last 10, 20, even 30 years were hand-picked by Alex Ferguson – and he didn’t pick idiots.

“What INEOS have done is astounding, getting rid of so many good members of staff, particularly when you measure it against the other decisions they’ve made.

“They’ve spent money so wastefully on players and wages and they don’t take any of the flack for it.

“Making these budget cuts and staff cuts is never going to make back the money they’ve wasted.

“They’re still sending millions and millions of pounds to the Glazers, who have allowed INEOS to come in while they sit back getting no flack.

“It’s INEOS who take the blame, and Ruben Amorim will too because of the on-pitch impact.

“I’m amazed that these people, both the Glazers and INEOS, can get away with what they’ve done.

“I don’t know how I can put it in any stronger terms, it’s disgraceful.

“There are some really good people who have lost their jobs for no reason other than the owners are trying to cover for their own mistakes.

“Now it looks like even more of the staff will be in the same position – it’s a huge shame.”

INEOS are facing further backlash amid pressure on controversial decisions.

INEOS made Marcus Rashford exit call amid ongoing controversy

The decision to part ways with Marcus Rashford, who left to join Aston Villa on loan in January, was given the green light by INEOS in an effort to trim the wage bill.

Villa are believed to be paying up to 70 per cent of the forward’s wage, and he earns more than the combined salaries of the 100+ people now facing the sack at United.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider that the England international earns roughly £325,000 per week, dwarfing the money spent on paying club employees.

That has only added to the controversy and frustrations surrounding INEOS and the ongoing questions about their decision-making and the effect on Manchester United.
