Nottingham Forest want Bamba Dieng and are now joining Celtic and Leeds United in the race to sign the Marseille attacker this summer.

Forest have enjoyed quite the spending spree this summer, bringing in 11 first-team signings for Steve Cooper.

This influx of additions was absolutely needed this summer with Forest losing loanees and allowing some out of contract players to leave.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at Newcastle United underlined the need for more recruits and Forest are likely to go for more attackers.

Nottingham Forest want Bamba Dieng

One name emerging as a Forest target is Marseille forward Bamba Dieng.

The Daily Mail report that Forest are targeting a move to sign Dieng as he prepares to leave Marseille this summer.

Sky Sports add that Dieng wants to leave Marseille because he fears his playing time will diminish now they are signing Alexis Sanchez.

Forest face a battle though as the Mail’s report states that Newcastle United, Leeds United, West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Celtic all fancy Dieng.

Newcastle even made an offer in January but Marseille rejected it.

Dieng, 22, hit eight goals and three assists in 36 Ligue 1 outings for Marseille last season, showing real promise for the Ligue 1 side.

The Senegal international – who can play up front or on either flank – has two years left on his Marseille contract and looks destined to leave now.

Celtic’s front three seems quite settled and it’s hard to imagine them paying up for Dieng in this situation.

Leeds and Forest do need attackers though, with the Whites chasing cover and competition for Patrick Bamford.

Che Adams and Arnaud Kalimuendo are two names mentioned but Dieng may be a cheaper alternative.

This just goes to show the major scramble for Dieng’s signature, with Forest needing to pull out all the stops if they want to sign the attacker compared to Sadio Mane earlier this year.
