Target says he's 'not aware' of Everton interest, Toffees reportedly bid £5m
Demarai Gray picks up the ball on the left-hand side, glances towards the penalty area and arches an inch-perfect cross into the six-yard box. If Dominic Calvert-Lewin had been leading the line for Frank Lampard’s side against Chelsea at Goodison Park, Edouard Mendy would surely have been kissing goodbye to his clean sheet.
Instead, with Anthony Gordon starting up front following ‘DCL’s latest injury-enforced absence, Gray’s wicked delivery counted for nothing. Gordon, a winger by trade, merely grazed the ball with his new bleach-blonde locks as it spun harmlessly out of play for a goal-kick.
Would Daniel Jebbison have turned such a high-quality cross into an assist? We can only speculate. But what is not up for discussion is that Everton need a new number nine before the window closes.
Everton need a striker after latest Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury
Football League World reported this week that Everton have turned to Sheffield United’s 18-year-old whizzkid as they look to ease the strain on Calvert-Lewin’s piano-wire muscles. The Canada-born England U19 international – who like Calvert-Lewin made his name at Bramall Lane – is one of the most promising young forwards in the country.
But while Jebbison admits the interest is flattering, speculation, for the time being, remains just that. Speculation.
“No, I am not aware of that,” the teenager said when quizzed about those Everton links. “It hasn’t been spoken about. I am focused on just Sheffield United at the minute.
“Yeah definitely (it’s flattering). Obviously means you are doing something right. (But) I don’t focus on the noise. At the end of the day, I am here. So all I am focused on is playing here and scoring goals.”
Everton’s interest in Jebbison is nothing new. According to The Athletic, the Toffees made a £5 million bid for the teenager back in August 2021. Shortly after his winning goal at Goodison Park. One that made him the youngest player ever to find the net on his full Premier League debut.
“Daniel is a big, big talent,” said Burton Albion coach Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink during Jebbison’s excellent loan spell at the Pirelli Stadium.
He scored seven times in 14 League One starts for the Brewers.
