Bradford City boss Graham Alexander believes Michael Mellon look a ‘goal threat’ against Newport County over the weekend.
Bradford City played the attacker in South Wales on Saturday. BCAFC drew 0-0 against Newport County and weren’t able to find a winner in the end.
Mellon, 21, joined the Bantams on loan from Burnley in the January transfer window. He has had to be patient for game time since then.
Alexander was impressed with him against the Exiles though and said afterwards, as per a report by The Telegraph & Argus: “Gradually players get up to speed and I think Michael’s one of them. We didn’t want him to come into the team early on when I didn’t think he was ready for it physically or tactically. But on Wednesday he did really well in that bounce game. I thought he’d picked it up and was ready to go.
“It was really encouraging and he definitely looked the biggest goal threat on the pitch. We had to create a squad for the challenge we’ve got in front of us. I think we’ve done that over the summer and then the January window.”
Bradford City’s Michael Mellon praised
Bradford City landed Mellon to add more competition and depth to their striking department.
Burnley let him leave on a temporary basis to get some more experience.
He spent the first-half of this season with Stockport County in League One but struggled for minutes.
He rose up through the academy at Manchester United and was a regular for the Premier League giants at various different youth levels.
Mellon parted company with the Red Devils in 2019 and was subsequently snapped up by Burnley.
The Scotland youth international is yet to make a senior appearance for the Clarets.
His father, Micky, is the manager of Oldham Athletic and he has also had spells in the past at Fleetwood Town, Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers.
Prior to linking up with Stockport County, Mellon had been loaned out away from Turf Moor in the past at Morecambe and Dundee to boost his development.
What now for Bradford City?
Bradford City are back in action in the Vertu Trophy away at Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
They then lock horns with MK Dons in the league on Saturday at Valley Parade.
The Bantams are sat in 3rd place in the table and are in the automatic promotion places with Walsall and AFC Wimbledon.
