Report: Leicester join Antonio Conte & Erik ten Hag in race to sign £22,000-a-week Leeds man

According to Get French Football News, Leicester have joined Manchester United and Tottenham in the race to sign Leeds glovesman Illan Meslier.

What’s the story?

Well, the £22,000-a-week man has been a sensation since he arrived in the Premier League with Leeds.

Meslier has kept 16 clean sheets in 75 Premier League appearances, which is an impressive tally considering he was left highly vulnerable under Marcelo Bielsa in what was a very open style of play.

Now, the Frenchman’s efforts have attracted the interest of Leicester, who are looking for a new goalkeeper after Kasper Schmeichel left for OGC Nice.

Tottenham are also monitoring the 22-year-old’s progress at Elland Road.

Furthermore, Manchester United are keen as they attempt to find an upgrade on David de Gea.

However – according to Fabrizio Romano – Leeds have no intention of doing business with the Red Devils, given the history between the two sides.

Erik ten Hag is eyeing a move for Borussia Monchengladbach shot-stopper Yann Sommer as an alternative.

Leicester, Tottenham & Manchester United interest proves Leeds have a gem

When Leeds spent £5m to sign Meslier on a permanent deal in July 2020, many considered it to be a large sum for a goalkeeper with little experience under his belt.

However, the Whites have been rewarded for their show of faith in the France Under-21 international, who could now fetch them a tidy profit if they do choose to sell.

It has been said that Leeds value their No.1 at a sum of £25m – in our view, their valuation should be at least double that, especially as Chelsea paid £72m to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is nowhere near as good as Meslier.

Whatever happens, interest from Premier League rivals proves that Leeds have a gem on their hands, one who is only going to improve.
