Report: Martin Zubimendi now on the verge of agreeing transfer just months after failed Liverpool move

The January transfer window is well underway and it remains to be seen if Liverpool add to their squad this month.
Arne Slot’s first summer in charge of the club was a quiet one as he refrained from splashing the cash and opted to go with the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.
After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, the Reds opted against pursuing alternatives as they signed Federico Chiesa on a cut-price deal and shut up.
Liverpool have continued to keep tabs on Zubimendi, but if reports are to be believed, the Spanish international has already decided his next destination.
Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi on his way to Arsenal
The Real Sociedad midfielder emerged as Liverpool’s primary transfer target as Slot looked to add another number six to his squad.
After initially signaling his desire to move to Anfield, Zubimendi changed his mind and remained at his boyhood club, which came as a body blow to Liverpool as they were willing to trigger his £51m release clause.
Slot moved on by using Ryan Gravenberch in that position and it’s safe to say that decision has worked wonders for him.
However, Liverpool still need another player in that position but it seems like they’ll have to look elsewhere.
According to Mail Sport, Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Zubimendi at the end of the season, with the player set to remain at Sociedad for the rest of the current campaign.
The Gunners wanted him to join the squad immediately, but Sociedad were unwilling to let him do so, due to which he will see out the rest of the campaign and then move to the Emirates Stadium.
What does Zubimendi’s move mean for Liverpool?
In all honesty, it seems like a huge blow to the Reds as they did a lot of groundwork to secure his signature in the summer and kept the door open for a future transfer.
Zubimendi didn’t want to leave his boyhood club in the summer but appears to have had a change of heart now, although it does come as a big surprise to see him join Arsenal.
Liverpool have no choice but to look at other options as they definitely need another player for the number six role, with Wataru Endo playing a bit part role this season and Tyler Morton not rated highly by Slot.
