Report: Nottingham Forest want to sign 21-year-old Manchester United player

Steven Cooper’s Nottingham Forest are interested in signing James Garner from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

Nottingham Forest want Manchester United’s James Garner

The Athletic have reported that Forest, who are playing in the Premier League this season after winning promotion from the Championship, have a ‘lingering interest’ in Garner.

The 21-year-old midfielder spent the second half of the 2020-21 season and the entire 2021-22 campaign on loan at the City Ground from Manchester United.

Garner helped the Reds win promotion from the Championship at the end of last season.

The youngster made 39 starts and five substitute appearances in the Championship for the Reds last season.

Garner scored four goals and gave eight assists in those matches.

What should Garner do?

In our view, if James Garner has the chance to return to Nottingham Forest for this season, then the Manchester United midfielder should seriously consider it.

Now, of course, United manager Ten Hag could use the midfielder as a squad player, but if Garner is able to get regular playing time at Forest, then he should welcome a move back to the City Ground.

After all, he is 21 now, and at this stage of his career, playing competitive games in the Premier League on a regular basis is going to help him in his growth and development.
