Report: West Ham & Frank Lampard join Patrick Vieira & Newcastle in race to sign 21-year-old
What’s the story?
Well, the 21-year-old was left out of the squad by Thomas Tuchel for Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Everton on Saturday evening, with an exit from Stamford Bridge looking very likely.
Now, one of West Ham, Everton, Crystal Palace or Newcastle could give him an escape route from Stamford Bridge.
The England international is also wanted by Leicester and Southampton, although 90min believe he could be used in a player-plus-cash deal with Crystal Palace over a deal involving Wilfried Zaha.
Chelsea are keen to sign the Ivory Coast international after letting Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner leave.
Borussia Dortmund are also interested in Hudson-Odoi, who Bayern Munich made a number of bids for in 2019, only for Chelsea to reject them all – the highest offer was worth £35m.
West Ham, Everton, Crystal Palace or Newcastle could sign a gem
As aforesaid, it wasn’t long ago that a European juggernaut in Bayern Munich saw Hudson-Odoi as their answer to Jadon Sancho, and saw enough potential in him to make one of the largest bids in their history.
At the age of just 21, that talent hasn’t gone anywhere – it has merely stagnated under Tuchel, whose wing-back system does not exactly accommodate for an touchline-hugging winger like Hudson-Odoi.
Next summer, he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at Chelsea, where plenty more clubs will presumably get involved in the battle for his signature.
Therefore, it is imperative that one of David Moyes, Frank Lampard, Patrick Vieira or Eddie Howe get their hands on Hudson-Odoi now.
Make no mistake about it – whoever wins the race for his services will be getting a special forward.
