Leeds and Rangers want James McAtee but the Manchester City talent is focusing his attention on securing first-team action at the Etihad Stadium.

City have allowed a young midfielder to leave the club with Darko Gyabi completing his move to Leeds today.

Another is likely to follow with Southampton chasing a deal for Romeo Lavia with City set to cash in on some of their young talent.

There have also been clubs looking to sign another City talent in James McAtee but that now looks unlikely to happen this summer.

Leeds and Rangers want James McAtee

McAtee has been tipped for a big future at City and even tabbed as the ‘next Phil Foden at the Etihad Stadium.

McAtee, just like Foden, is a forward-thinking playmaker with a low centre of gravity and major hype surrounding him at City.

The 19-year-old has been coming up through the City ranks and has now made six first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.

More first-team football won’t be easy to come by for McAtee though with City focusing more on their established stars.

Leeds have been chasing a deal for McAtee and were even interested in taking him as part of the Kalvin Phillips move to Manchester City.

That was before Gyabi made his move and it’s unclear whether Leeds would push for McAtee as well now.

The most recent link has been with Rangers, as The Scottish Sun claim that Rangers are launching an ambitious bid for McAtee.

Rangers ‘desperately’ want to sign McAtee on loan and are trying to tempt City into sending him north of the border.

Both Leeds and Rangers may need to shelve their interest in McAtee though as the playmaker seemingly isn’t all that keen on going.

The Athletic claim that whilst a number of teams want to sign McAtee permanently or on loan, he is planning on staying at City and hoping to kick on.

With Cole Palmer expected to play more minutes this coming season, McAtee will then take on some more minutes himself – and he will push for those minute rather than chase moves to Leeds or Rangers.
