Report: Newcastle United are now close to signing Celtic target who has 'immense speed'
Celtic wanted Garang Kuol but are set to miss out with Newcastle United on the verge of signing the Australian talent.
Kuol is becoming one of the most in-demand youngsters in world football at the moment.
The 18-year-old has hit four goals in just nine A-League games whilst also bagging an assist.
Kuol has hit the headlines of light having earned his first Australia cap – and he could now end up at the World Cup.
With an ‘thrilling’ cameo against New Zealand on Sunday, Kuol is on the rise and a transfer appears imminent for him.
Celtic wanted Garang Kuol
Reports from Australia last week suggested that Newcastle United were on the verge of signing Kuol.
A four-year deal worth around £25,000-a-week was suggested with Newcastle hoping to win the race for his signature.
Hailed for his ‘immense speed’, Kuol is the kind of exciting talent Newcastle are looking to add to Eddie Howe’s squad.
Sky Sports now add that Newcastle are indeed ‘close’ to securing a deal for Kuol.
However, that report adds that Celtic were also showing an interest in signing Kuol, as were Borussia Dortmund.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has publicly praised Kuol so maybe the Bhoys’ interest shouldn’t be a huge surprise.
Celtic can offer the prospect of playing under a fellow Australian in Postecoglou as well as title challenges, European football and a pathway to first-team action.
Yet with Newcastle embarking on an exciting project and able to give Kuol big cash now, few can blame the teenager for fancying Tyneside.
Kuol won’t head straight to the North East in January though; he doesn’t qualify for a work permit in England and will need to head out on loan to Europe.
Beating Dortmund is a major signal of intent from Newcastle, but they will also be delighted that Postecoglou’s interest seemingly won’t lure Kuol away from St James’ Park.
