Stoke City player attracting transfer attention from elsewhere
12/12/2024 09:32
Stoke City winger Million Manhoef is wanted by Premier League clubs ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report by Football League World.
Stoke City may have to fend off some interest in the attacker this winter. He is under contract at the Bet365 Stadium until the summer of 2027 so they are under no pressure to sell him next month.
Manhoef, 22, has made 23 appearances in all competitions so far this season and has chipped in with five goals and two assists. The Potters are currently sat in 18th place in the Championship table after their first 20 fixtures and are only four points above the drop zone following their 2-1 loss away at Luton Town last time out.
According to Football League World, some unnamed top flight teams are keeping tabs on Manhoef’s progress at the moment. The identities of the particular clubs in question are yet to be known at this stage.
Stoke City attacker wanted
Stoke City signed Manhoef in February 2024 on a three-and-a-half year contract.
He was brought in by the Potters in the last campaign to bolster their attacking department and inject quality into their ranks.
Prior to his move to England, he spent eight years on the books at Vitesse.
The ex-Holland youth international rose up through the ranks of the Dutch team and went on to play 88 times for their first-team, finding the net on 15 occasions.
Manheof said in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad (via Sport Witness) earlier this year that he wants to play at the highest level: “That still stands, and I am quite on schedule (to reach the Premier League). I am a starter at Stoke, but the season is long with 46 games. Quite fun, because you want to play football. The most important thing is to stay fit. Then I have a better chance of returns, and I can also achieve other goals. Then everything must turn out fine.
“There are five objectives in total. They serve as an incentive. Every day. This is how I go to sleep and wake up with the things I want to improve. At first my goals were quite general. Over the years I have learned to formulate them more and more specifically and to determine how I want to achieve them.”
What now?
Stoke City’s form has slumped recently and they need to pick up results fast or they could be dragged into a relegation battle.
Pressure is mounting on Narcis Pelach to turn things around. He was picked as the Potters’ replacement for Steven Schumacher earlier this year.
They are back in action this weekend at home to Cardiff City.
