Arsenal need a new striker, and that was once again evident this weekend against Manchester United.

Indeed, Kai Havertz has been criticised this week after two poor performances against Newcastle and Manchester United, and Arsenal need a new number nine.

Alexander Isak has been linked to Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta is said to be a big fan of Isak.

However, according to Miguel Delaney, speaking on the Second Captain Podcast, that may not be the case.

Indeed, the journalist says that Arsenal didn't actually think about signing Isak last summer, and that there has been a suggestion that Isak doesn't actually fit the bill of what Arteta wants from a new striker.

What's being said about Alexander Isak and Arsenal

Delaney shared what he has heard about Isak and Arsenal.

It had been reported that Arteta is a big fan of Isak, but Delaney has now heard something completely different, stating that Arsenal want a different type of striker – someone who is more of a focal point.

The journalist went on to say that Arsenal like Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson.

"They went in the last summer and they would have liked to forward. And they went for Sesko initially, but due to a few issues with Sesko's clause and where he was at Leipzig at that point, they couldn’t advance on a deal. I know they didn’t think about Isak," Delaney said.

"Newcastle were never going to basically do a deal with Arsenal, they quickly had to move on from that. And also, it’s been suggested to me that Isak actually isn’t exactly the type of forward that Arteta wants."

"But I think this comes back to a little bit of maybe where you can have some more justifiable criticisms of Arteta, where in the sense that he has, what he would want is a very physical focal point forward. I suppose a little bit like, again, as I said, an upgrade on Jesus.

"And it’s why Sesko is someone they’ve looked at and actually why they do like Evan Ferguson."

Isak compared to Sesko and Ferguson

Arteta apparently isn't sold on Isak being a good fit for Arsenal's style, but it's very difficult to see where that has come from.

Indeed, Isak is an incredible all-round striker, and while he may not play like a target man in the way Sesko and Ferguson do, he still has the size and strength to bully defenders.

The stats tell you the entire story here, Isak is just on another level to Sesko and Ferguson.

Isak is a world-class player at this point, and there's a reason Arsenal have been urged to sign Isak on so many occasions.

On paper, Isak and Arsenal does look like a match made in heaven, but, for some reason, Arteta may not be so keen to bring the Swedish striker to the Emirates.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Arsenal do as they look to add more firepower to their squad in the coming months.
