Club Brugge are reportedly interested in signing Sheffield United star Sander Berge after Charles De Ketelaere’s sale to AC Milan, two players Leeds are rumoured to be keen on.

According to VoetbalNieuws, the Belgian side are looking to reinvest into the squad in a big way following De Ketelaere’s departure to Milan, with Brugge eyeing a club-record move to sign Berge, who is reportedly a target for Leeds this summer.

With a reported price tag of £35m, the Championship star is an expensive target for many Premier League sides, let alone top clubs in the Belgian Jupiler League, however, as per the report, Berge’s interest in returning to Belgium and playing for Brugge could drive a potential transfer down to as low as €15m (£12m).

Leeds have already missed one huge deal this summer from Brugge after De Ketelaere opted to move to Milan instead of a move to Elland Road, and now, Jesse Marsch could be on the receiving end of another huge transfer blow in the coming weeks if the Blauw-Zwart sign Berge.

A player who surprised many by not leaving Sheffield United last summer following their relegation to the Championship, Berge played a key role in the Blades’ run to a play-off spot finish in the English second-tier, yet this summer, the midfielder again remains adamant on leaving for top-flight football.

Indeed, with Leeds losing Kalvin Phillips and now potentially Mateusz Klich according to reports, Berge would be a sensational addition for the Whites this summer on top of Tyler Adams and Marc Roca, yet interest from Brugge could derail any plans the Yorkshire side have to bring the Norway international across the county.

Labelled as ‘complete’ by for former Blades boss Chris Wilder, Berge is rightly a target for some top sides across Europe, yet for Leeds, they have the capacity to beat many clubs to the midfielder’s signature, even with Brugge plotting a record offer to sign the Scandinavian.

After all, Marsch’s project at Leeds is one of the most exciting in the Premier League, and for Berge, being a part of that could be a tantalising prospect, even with Brugge offering continental football and potentially a better wage than what the Whites can offer this summer.
