Report: Man City could loan 'special' talent to Steve Bruce after rejecting £16m PL offer
Manchester City have been approached by West Brom over potentially signing Liam Delap on loan for the season, with Southampton recently making a £16m bid for the striker this summer.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Steve Bruce has made a loan request for the England youth international in what has been a thrilling summer for Delap, with the attacker the centre of much attention from British and European sides as clubs battle it out for his signature.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Southampton made a £16m bid to sign Delap on a permanent deal, though City shot down the offer with Pep Guardiola intent on keeping the teenage striker at the Etihad for the future, which means West Brom could well sign the forward on loan.
The Baggies have endured a rough start in the new Championship season with Bruce’s side drawing two and losing one of their opening three games, with West Brom also scoring just three goals in the process, and a move for Delap could change their fortunes this season.
Whilst West Brom have an impressive array of attacking options for the second-tier in Daryl Dike, Karlan Grant and Callum Robinson, Delap would offer something extra to the Hawthorns side given his age and unreal goalscoring record at youth level in recent years.
Lauded by Pep Guardiola as a ‘special’ talent, Delap is set for a big future if City can get his development spot on, and a loan move to the Championship could be perfect for the striker given the arrival of Erling Haaland at the club this summer, which could make regular minutes near-impossible to get.
Signing for West Brom on loan could be a great move for Delap this season
City’s youth development in recent years has been some of the best in England, and Delap is another player who has the potential to become a regular for the club in the coming years should the attacker hit his stride this season, and signing for West Brom on loan for the year could do just that.
The Championship, as a whole, is the perfect division for a player like Delap to develop his game, and under a manager like Bruce, the West Brom boss will manage the City youngster’s time perfectly in what could be an exciting partnership for the 19-year-old attacker.
