Chelsea want around £13 million for 2021 Champions League winner Emerson Palmieri after West Ham United submitted a bid for the Nottingham Forest target, as reported by The London Standard.

During Sunday’s action-filled clash at the City Ground, neither Forest nor the Hammers really looked like teams in need of a new left-back.

Harry Toffolo’s weaving run set up the hosts’ first Premier League goal since the turn of the Century. And, at the other end of the pitch, Aaron Cresswell often appeared to be West Ham’s biggest attacking threat. Alongside the scintillating Said Benrahma, that is.

Delve a little deeper, however, and the interest in Brazil-born Italy international Emerson makes sense.

West Ham, after all, are yet to replace Arthur Masuaku. Emerson, reportedly the subject of an official bid from the Hammers as of today, appears to have emerged as a priority target after Filip Kostic chose Juventus.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, lost summer signing Omar Richards to a hairline fracture recently. Steve Cooper’s play-off winners made an enquiry about Emerson after Alex Moreno – seemingly their number one pick – opted to stay at Real Betis (Daily Mail).

Interest in Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi has also been played down. Another reported target, Pervis Estupinan, could join Brighton.

Chelsea could sell Italy international Emerson Palmieri

According to The Standard, Chelsea would rather sell Emerson than loan him out again. The £25 million signing from Roma spent last term out at Lyon. And cut-price bids of just £13 million will be considered. Emerson, after all, has less than two years left on his Stamford Bridge contract.

“I’m so happy for him,” Blues boss Thomas Tuchel said last year of Emerson, who started during Italy’s victory over England at Wembley shortly after helping Chelsea re-claim the Champions League trophy

“He is one of the nicest guys you can imagine. He’s always friendly, with unbelievable qualities.”

Those ‘unbelievable qualities’, as far as Moyes or Cooper are concerned, will likely include his ability to play as a wing-back or an orthodox full-back.

Emerson is not quite as creative as Kostic or Moreno going forward, however. In 33 Premier League games, he’s got one assist and no goals.
