‘Saw this with Mudryk’: Journalist says Arsenal could hijack Chelsea deal in Mudryk role reversal

Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs, has suggested that Arsenal may have a chance to hijack Chelsea’s move for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

This potential move would come as a bit of revenge for Arsenal, as Chelsea recently hijacked their deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Of course, Chelsea currently sit in mid-table while Arsenal are top of the league, which may make the Emirates a more alluring destination for Caicedo.

Unfortunately, Jacobs claims that the midfield sees a move to Chelsea as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” due to the package and project that Chelsea have presented, as well as his relationship with Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who he knows, likes and respects.

Interestingly though, Arsenal have recently done business with Brighton for Leandro Trossard and Ben White, which could potentially make a deal for Caicedo smoother.

Meanwhile, there is also an element of bad blood between Brighton and Chelsea after the Blues took Graham Potter from them. Although, Caicedo’s relationship with Potter may work in Chelsea’s favour.

Arsenal could hijack Chelsea’s Caicedo move

Jacobs shared what he knows about this situation.

“Chelsea are still the favourites. I’ve been told repeatedly that a move to Chelsea for Moises Caicedo is seen by the player as a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’. In terms of the package, the project, the fact that Graham Potter is there who he knows, likes and respects. He has had his head turned by Chelsea, but Arsenal can influence that, they’re later in the conversation,” Jacobs said.

“We saw this with Mudryk where he spent all summer and winter saying that he wanted Arsenal, but then he was happy to join Chelsea because Arsenal left the race. We shouldn’t rule out Arsenal, but right now it’s Chelsea that is turning his head. They have put down a formal offer and are considering a late move to meet the valuation, but Brighton are no mugs.”

Open race

While Chelsea are currently considered the favourites to land Moises Caicedo, as Jacobs says, Arsenal’s interest in the player should not be discounted.

The fact that Chelsea hijacked Arsenal’s deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk earlier this month, shows that players can quickly change their minds on where they want to go. Mudryk was transfixed on Arsenal for months before joining Chelsea.

The Ecuadorian is currently seemingly enamored by the idea of playing for the Blues, but with Arsenal flying high in the Premier League, perhaps a move to the Emirates could turn Caicedo’s head once again.
