Wigan Athletic midfielder attracting new Scottish interest with Aberdeen already keen
Wigan Athletic attacking midfielder Jamie McGrath has emerged as a target for Dundee United, a report from The Courier has said. Wigan Athletic recruited McGrath from St. Mirren in January, snapping him up after an impressive two-year stay with the Scottish club. However, he hasn’t really had the chance to make an impression since linking up with the Latics. The 25-year-old hasn’t been able to break into Leam Richardson’s side, playing only four times for the club over the second half of the season. After an underwhelming start to life at the DW Stadium, Aberdeen have been linked with a move to bring him back to Scotland. Now, it has been claimed new interest has emerged from Dundee United. The Courier states that former Sunderland and Hibernian boss Jack Ross has set his sights on making him one of his first signings since taking over at Tannadice after Tam Courts’ departure. What has McGrath said? Despite his regular absence from Richardson’s squads after his arrival, McGrath’s summer intentions seem clear. He spoke with Wigan Today earlier this month to set out his desire to prove he deserves a place in Wigan Athletic’s Championship plans. The former St. Pat’s and Dundalk ace has said he is aiming to enjoy a successful pre-season to stand him in good stead for game time in England’s second-tier, so it certainly seems he doesn’t have his eyes on an exit despite interest from Aberdeen and Dundee United. It will be hoped that he can enjoy a strong pre-season as he fights for a place in Richardson’s Wigan Athletic plans moving forward.
