Report: £138,000-a-week player Newcastle discussed signing will now join West Ham

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United wanted to sign Alphonse Areola in the summer transfer window, but it looks like the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper is about to join West Ham United on a permanent deal instead.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that West Ham and PSG have agreed a deal over Areola.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that it is only a matter of time before the Hammers make the announcement.

The 29-year-old France international goalkeeper spent last season on loan at West Ham from PSG.

Areola made one appearance in the Premier League, three in the Carabao Cup, 11 in the Europa League and three in the FA Cup for David Moyes’s side last season.

The Daily Mail reported on June 9 that Newcastle were showing interest in Areola.

RMC Sport reported on June 14 that Newcastle had started talks with PSG over a potential deal for the France international goalkeeper, who earns £138,000 per week (SalarySport).

However, Newcastle signed goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley on June 23.

So the Magpies do not need to sign a new goalkeeper.

And it seems that Areola is going to move to West Ham on a permanent deal now.
