Report: West Ham still struggling to keep out-of-contract teenager as Tottenham lurk
Sonny Perkins could leave West Ham with no movement on a new contract despite interest from the likes of Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Hammers have just said goodbye to one homegrown ace as Mark Noble called time on his playing career.
Yet whilst Noble’s exit came after 550 appearances for West Ham, Perkins could end up leaving with just a handful of appearances to his name.
Perkins emerged this past season and played twice in the Europa League as well as making one Premier League appearance.
Yet after playing three times for the West Ham first team, Perkins could now leave the London Stadium.
Sonny Perkins could leave West Ham
Perkins is out of contract this summer and has just six days left on his contract.
The 18-year-old, who can play as an attacking midfielder or forward, currently looks set to leave West Ham.
The Athletic claim that no progress has been made during talks with Perkins. The issue is that Perkins is, in West Ham’s eyes, asking for too much money.
That means Perkins now looks set to leave the club and he could end up joining a Premier League rival.
The Guardian reported earlier this month that Tottenham are interested in raiding their London rivals for Perkins.
Leeds United and Aston Villa are also interested and could table contract offers for the teenager.
West Ham would be due compensation for Perkins no matter where he goes, but would be entitled to more if he joins another English club.
That could be agreed between the clubs or even taken to tribunal if no deal is struck.
Perkins won West Ham’s Young Player of the Year award this past season and bagged 10 goals in 20 Premier League 2 games.
The hope was that Perkins would kick on and become a first-team regular just like Noble did.
Yet with no new contract in the offing, it looks like Perkins will move on – and potentially join Villa, Leeds or Newcastle.
