Newcastle United Join The Race To Land West Brom Ace: Where Can He Fit Into Benitez's Plans?

Matt Philips is steering up a three-way showdown between Newcastle United, Cardiff City and Middlesbrough as the clubs plot and move strategically for the winger and makeshift striker. As reported by the DailyMail, a £11m capture is being weighed up for the West Bromwich Albion man as he looks for an escape route away from the Championship following the relegation of the Baggies last season. Cardiff would like to add Premier League experience to their squad and signing Philips would give them an added advantage as the player knows the league and can pass on valuable information amongst those in the Cardiff City dressing room. The Bluebirds will face a mighty challenge in postponing their stay in the Premier League and will do well to acquire Philips. Newcastle United have already begun their preparations for the new season and have added Chelsea youngster Kenedy to their roster on a season-long loan move. Manager Rafael Benitez will want his team to be more clinical in front of goal and in order for that to happen, the main strikers Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic need more assistance in getting the ball to them. Philips will be able to provide Newcastle with a fresh approach as the winger is experienced enough to be able to provide them with the chances they need, to try and find the back of the opposition net. Philips is strong and not easy to shake off when on the ball. He is quick on his feet too, which makes it an even trickier task for opposition to snatch the ball away from him.  He is highly skillful and is never afraid to dazzle the crowd with his moves on the pitch while charging like a bull down the sidelines. He can pass the ball well and is not afraid to let fly at goal. Newcastle United is in need of a player like Matt Philips to challenge the likes of Kenedy and Dwight Gayle for a place on the team sheet. Bringing in new players is something positive as it creates a sense of competition among the team in order for them to always push hard and give it their best so that they get the opportunity to find more game time coming in their direction.
