The new Everton manager's first task should be to reignite club's interest in £25.2m-rated ace

Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much intrigued as to who their club's next manager might be, what with former boss Sam Allardyce relieved of his duties earlier this month. The former England chief was drafted in by the Toffees hierarchy back in November following the departure of Ronald Koeman, and while it certainly hasn't been pretty, the 63-year-old did indeed lead the Merseysiders away from the bottom three, eventually finishing in eighth place in the Premier League. However, he was met by much criticism from Everton fans both home and away as the season progressed, with the club taking the decision to part with Allardyce at the start of the month as they seek a more long-term appointment. As of yet, the club remains without a manager, although it's pretty clear that one of his first task's in charge, whoever it might be, should be to reignite the club's interest in £25.2 million-rated ace Memphis Depay (as per Transfermarkt). The Toffees were linked with a move for the former Manchester United forward back in January 2017 but no deal materialised, and the Dutchman has since showed Everton what they have been missing with some sparkling form for French side Lyon. Undoubtedly, the 24-year-old flopped in England with the Red Devils, lasting just two seasons at Old Trafford and bagging just seven goals in the process, but he deserves immense credit for reigniting his career at Lyon with a remarkable 22 goals and 17 assists in 51 appearances for the club this season, helping them to a third place finish in Ligue 1. Thus, it appears that Depay has returned to the levels that originally earned him a move to United back in 2015, and as such is beginning to look like the player Koeman would loved to have signed at Everton little over a year ago. And having inspired Lyon to victory over the Toffees in the group stages of the Europa League back in November, it's clear how much he would still add to Everton's forward ranks heading into the new season. The Toffees struggled for goals for much of the season and often looked bereft of ideas in the final third of the pitch, with Yannick Bolasie struggling to regain his form following a year out with injury, while January signing Theo Walcott made a fine start but somewhat went off the boil as the season drew to a close. Thus, further attacking reinforcements are certainly needed at Goodison Park to take the club to the next level next time round, and with Depay looking like the player that excelled at PSV Eindhoven many years ago, he could be the perfect addition for the new manager. And having undoubtedly learned from his testing time at United, it's likely that the 24-year-old would return to England a better player and more streetwise to the demands of the Premier League – thus, there's no reason why he wouldn't succeed at Goodison Park. As such, the first task the new Everton manager must carry out is reigniting his club's interest in Depay this summer. Everton fans… what do you think? Let us know!
