Daryl Dike misses West Brom cup exit due to calf injury

Daryl Dike has suffered a minor injury setback, which will be a worrying sign for both West Bromwich Albion and U.S. men’s national team fans.

Dike missed West Brom’s 2-0 FA Cup loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday due to a calf injury. The USMNT forward was not part of Carlos Corberan’s squad as the Baggies suffered FA Cup fourth round elimination against one of their biggest rivals.

Pedro Neto broke the deadlock for Wolves in the first half before Matheus Cunha’s second-half goal sealed Wolves’ advancement into the fifth round. The match was also halted for a lengthy period in the final 15 minutes due to fan altercations at the Hawthorns.

Dike, 23, made his season debut in a 4-1 FA Cup win over Aldershot Town, scoring once for his first goal of the campaign. It had marked Dike’s first match involvement since March 2023 after a torn Achilles’ tendon sidelined him long-term.

He also featured in EFL Championship matches against Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City earlier this month, but reportedly suffered his calf issue in his 21-minute cameo at Carrow Road on Jan. 20.

Injuries have plagued Dike’s time at West Brom, reducing him to only 30 appearances since joining from Orlando City in Jan. 2022.

Corberan will hope that Dike’s absence is a short one with the Baggies fighting for promotion back to the English Premier League. West Brom sits fifth in the Championship table and next hosts Birmingham City on Feb. 3.
