Spanish Football Federation cede to Real Madrid amid La Liga trophy dispute

Real Madrid will not receive the Liga trophy next weekend, after the Royal Spanish Football Federation have accepted their demands. The RFEF President Pedro Rocha was due to deliver the trophy next weekend when Los Blancos play Granada at Nuevo Los Carmenes, but will now do so against Alaves on a Tuesday night the following week.

The league champions had noted that they did not want to be presented with the trophy in Granada, as the home side could be left watching on having been relegated earlier in the day, and felt it would be disrespectful to Granada, as per Diario AS.

Clearly, Real Madrid would much rather be presented with the trophy in their own stadium too, although it does avoid a potentially awkward situation. Two days before they are presented with the trophy, Real Madrid will be received at the City Hall, and spend their Sunday at the Cibeles Fountain, where they traditionally celebrate trophies with the fans.
