Canada's men's national team will open the 2024 Copa America against Lionel Messi and Argentina after beating Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday for a berth in the summer tournament.

Cyle Larin's all-time leading 29th goal for Canada preceded substitute Jacob Shaffelburg's emphatic stoppage-time insurance marker in the 2-0 win at Toyota Stadium in Dallas.

Canada's second victory in four matches since John Herdman resigned as head coach ensured top billing in the Copa America's opening match against the reigning World Cup champion on June 20.

Canada will also face Peru and Chile in Group A. The top two teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
