Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger explains why he believes Gunners ‘can’t be ruled out’ of Premier League title challenge

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the Gunners are in with a chance of winning the Premier League this season. The thirteen time English champions currently sit top of the league, with five straight wins and one loss under their belts after six games. Wenger believes his old team can win the league againtwitter And Wenger – who now work as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development – knows exactly how to guide a side to the Premier League trophy. The Frenchman won three league titles with the Gunners during his tenure between 1996 and 2018, winning in 1998, 2002 and going unbeaten as they secured another in 2004. Following his exit in 2018, though, the north London outfit haven’t finish top of the Premier League. But whilst the season is only a few weeks in, Wenger already believes this season could finally give Arsenal a chance to end the drought as no one else has stood out yet. “This season, from the start, there is no completely dominating team and Arsenal have a chance [of winning the title] because the potential is there,” the 72-year-old said at former Arsenal co-owner David Dein’s book promotion event. The Gunners narrowly missed out on a place in the top four and therefore this season’s Champions League to north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last season. Why not?” Wenger continued. “I think you cannot even rule out the fact that they can fight for the title.” Wenger praised his former club for recruiting well whilst continuing to improve their homegrown players. Of course, reigning champions City are hot on Arsenal’s tails, just one point behind on 14, and the addition, striker Erling Haaland – who’s already bagged 10 goals this season – will certainly make it tough for Arsenal to battle for that title.
