Aston Villa post sends fans into frenzy during England's draw against Belgium

Aston Villa’s social media post in the middle of England’s 2-2 draw against Belgium on Tuesday night has split opinion among fans.

Early in the game, Youri Tielemans put the visitors ahead – the first through a massive Jordan Pickford error – and scored again before the end of the first 45 minutes and this appeared to be celebrated by the Premier League side.

As an Aston Villa player, the football club was understandably happy to see him thrive for his country.

As well as reposting clips of the two goals, they uploaded a picture of Tielemans celebrating with the caption: “DU DU DU DU DU DU YOURI TIELEMANSSS.”

It has split opinion between fans, some of whom believe that an English club should not be celebrating goals against their own country.

But others simply thought those supporters need to get a life if a couple of tweets has triggered them.

One fan asked: “Why is an Aston Villa account cheering on Belgium?”

And this fan added: “I'm all for backing our players when they play for their countries and Youri did very well, but an English club celebrating a goal against England like this is too much.”

While another said: “Admin getting sacked in the morning.”

However, not everyone agreed with one supporter replying: “Great support for a brilliant performance.”

A second wrote: “Respect to Villa for showing support for their players. Club over country any day for me.”

And another said: “Why's everyone acting like it's an England account not a club account. The club pay Youri not Southgate etc it's their job to talk about him.”

One fan summed it up: “The amount of fully grown adults upset by this is hilarious. Up the Villa.”

In defence of Villa, they had posted about all of their players in international action over the week.

That included Ollie Watkins, who started against Brazil on Saturday night and came off the bench against Belgium.

Ezri Konsa also received a post, congratulating the defender on making his full debut for England on Tuesday night.

And also that of young forward Morgan Rogers, who scored twice for the England Under-21s against Luxembourg in a 7-0 win.

On the night, Jude Bellingham rescued a draw for England in the fourth minute of stoppage time at Wembley to mark the end of the March international break.
