Ian Wright has admitted that Arsenal got lucky with two wrong decisions against Bournemouth.

The Gunners maintained their title charge with a 3-0 win over the Cherries, albeit with a couple of contentious calls going their way.

Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead from the penalty spot just before half-time after Kai Havertz won a spot kick.

The German star was brought down inside the area by goalkeeper Mark Travers and after a VAR review, the spot-kick was not overturned.

While Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice made it 3-0, Bournemouth had a goal ruled out from Antoine Semenyo with Dominic Solanke adjudged to have fouled David Raya.

As a result, the goal was chalked off – and VAR once again decided not to intervene with the on-field decision, despite the soft nature of the free-kick.

Bournemouth were also appealing for a foul on Philip Billing in the same phase of play.

Taking to X, even Arsenal legend Wright felt his beloved side got away with one – or two.

He said: “Didn’t think it was a penalty. Bournemouth’s goal should have stood. Job done three points.”

Discussing the incidents post-match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “The honest answer is I haven’t seen any of the incidents because I knew you were going to ask me. I did it on purpose.

“The analysts said do you want to watch it and I said no because then I can tell the truth.

“I haven’t seen them so I cannot comment or have an impression.

“The one on David, the foul, I cannot see because it’s too far. The one on Bukayo, is it on purpose or not?

“I don’t know so difficult for me to judge.”
