Mohamed Salah's early penalty at Atalanta was nothing more than a false flag.

The Reds beat the Bergamaschi 1-0 at Gewiss Stadium on Thursday but their comeback ultimately fell short, with last week's stunning 3-0 defeat proving too big to overcome.

Once relishing the possibility of winning an unprecedented quadruple in Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge, Liverpool can now only claim half the silverware. They've already won the League Cup and remain two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City with six matches remaining in the season.

More to come.
