Local players to benefit from Finidi appointment – Unuanel

The appointment of Finidi George as the Super Eagles head coach will help the development of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

This is according to former Kwara United head coach Samson Unuanel who also coached George’s former club Enyimba in the NPFL.

In September 2021, Enyimba named Finidi as their new coach and he won his first title on the 11th of June 2023, winning the NPFL championship.

"I want to congratulate Finidi George for his appointment as Super Eagles job,” Unuanel said on Complete Sports Nigeria.

"He has done enough to merit the position going by what he has done with Enyimba and the experience garnered as an assistant under Jose Peseiro."

"I believe his appointment will have direct impact on the NPFL players because for some time now the local-based players have not been given enough opportunity to prove their worth in the Super Eagles."

Before his appointment as Nigeria’s coach, Finidi was the assistant coach to Jose Peseiro and was the Interim coach who led the Super Eagles to beat Ghana 2-1 ending 18 years of unsuccessful attempts to defeat the Black Stars.
