Pirates to defend their crown against Sundowns

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns both have an opportunity to win two trophies this season when they clash in the Nedbank Cup final.

The two teams met twice in the DStv Premiership and they also faced off in the MTN 8 final which the Buccaneers won 3-1 on penalties following a goalless draw.

Pirates will have the chance to defend their title after beating Chippa United 3-1 in their semi-final tie at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

A first-half brace from Kabelo Dlamini (5′, 41′) put Jose Riveiro’s side in the driving seat and Tapelo Xoki (81′) sealed the win late on.

Sundowns are still in the hunt for a domestic double after they edged Carling knockout winners Stellenbosch 2-1 in the last-four encounter at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday.

Goals in each half from Khuliso Mudau (11′) and Thembinkosi Lorch (74′) got the job done for Bafana ba Style, although Genino Palace (81′) made them sweat when he pulled one back in the closing stages.
