John Eustace reveals what he thinks of Coventry City following Birmingham City draw

Birmingham City manager John Eustace has branded Coventry City’s league position as “false” following the Blues’ draw at the weekend. The Sky Blues remain rooted to the bottom of the Championship table following Saturday’s 0-0 at St. Andrew’s. Mark Robins’ side have played only seven times so far this season compared to most teams who have 10 fixtures under their belt. A series of home game postponements in August have disrupted the club’s start to the new campaign, with Coventry yet to win a league match this season. However, the former midfielder believes his old club are better than their league position suggests and knew they would prove to be difficult opponents going into the weekend’s clash. Reflecting on the scoreless affair, he believes that it will prove to be a good result against a tough side. “I think the first half we had the best chance of the game, [Juninho] Bacuna should have put that away but overall a draw was probably a fair result,” said Eustace, via Coventry Live. “First half we were under a lot of pressure, we didn’t start the game very well although a lot of their chances were from distance.  “They did have one good opportunity. “After Wednesday’s performance and the efforts the lads put in at The Hawthorns I always knew today’s game was going to be very, very difficult because Coventry are still a very good team – they are in a false position.  “We knew the task ahead. “But the most important thing for me today was we didn’t lose the game.  “I thought defensively that second half we were much better, we were much more on the front foot and a lot more like ourselves.  “Maybe there is a bit of disappointment we didn’t win but I am delighted with the point.” The draw moved Birmingham to 17th in the table heading into the first international break of the season. Eustace’s side returns to action on October 1 with a trip to Bramall Lane to face league leaders Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Coventry host Middlesbrough when the Championship resumes next month. The Verdict It’s been a really difficult start to the season for Coventry, with injuries, postponements and transfer speculation all offering unwanted distractions. This international break will offer Robins a chance to reset, with the likes of Callum O’Hare nearing a return to action. That will come as a huge boost to the team’s chances, with the midfielder proving to be an important member of the side last season. It is only a matter of time before things start to get turned around at Coventry, with this squad capable of much better results once they get into a proper rhythm. Source
