'At least': Celtic told they could rake in as much as £3m for player that is in 'fabulous' form

Not many will have predicted Mikey Johnston to have the impact he’s having at West Brom when joining from Celtic on loan – and Carlton Palmer discusses how much a permanent move would cost.

Six-time Ireland star Johnston, 24, only managed 12 outings for Celtic during the first half of the season and that saw Brendan Rodgers sanction a loan exit in January – moving to play-off hopefuls West Brom.

The winger has been superb. While he has also been a player with plenty of promise and certainly gifted technically – his end product has come on this season. In nine games for West Brom, he’s scored six.

An assist, too. Given his form, a permanent move to The Hawthorns or other Championship clubs is now being considered – and Carlton Palmer discussed how much he’d cost interested parties this summer.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said about Johnston: "He's having a fabulous time at West Brom, and he's enjoying his football there. He's still currently got his contract at his parent club at Celtic.

“There is no fee being written to his contract, so who knows whether West Brom would be able to afford him with the new owners they've got in. I think Celtic will be looking at least £2m or £3m given his form.”

Johnston’s form should not only be attracting interest from Championship clubs, but perhaps those in the top tier too – or, those pushing for automatic promotion from the second tier to the Premier League.

What also must be considered is that Johnston still has two years left on his Celtic deal and there is no indication that the Hoops are against bringing him back. His West Brom form will surely tempt Rodgers.

It is a long way away from Stephen McGinn claiming Johnston was getting worse in December. John Hartson claimed he only played a bit for Celtic before his loan in order to put him in the shop window.
