Nathaniel Mendez-Laing shares message with Derby County supporters ahead of Cambridge clash

Derby County winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has taken to Instagram to share a message with the club’s supporters ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium. Mendez-Laing will be aiming to reclaim a place in the Rams’ starting eleven tomorrow after being deployed as a substitute against Wycombe Wanderers earlier this month. Despite leading Derby to victory in their showdown with the Chairboys, Liam Rosenior was relieved of his duties as interim manager last week. The Rams opted to hand over the reins at Pride Park to Paul Warne who left Rotherham United in order to become the League One outfit’s new head coach. Having led the Millers to promotion to the Championship on three separate occasions, Warne will be hoping to replicate this feat at Derby this season. Currently 11th in the third-tier standings, the Rams know that they will need to be firing on all cylinders on Saturday as Cambridge have won four of their five home league fixtures during the current campaign. Ahead of this clash, Mendez-Laing has opted to take to Instagram to share a post with Derby’s supporters. The 30-year-old posted a number of pictures of himself participating in training with the caption: “Focused on Saturday.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (@mendezlaing11) The Verdict With all of Derby’s players keen to impress Warne ahead of the club’s meeting with Cambridge, it will be interesting to see whether Mendez-Laing is given the nod to start this weekend. The winger has managed to produce some positive performances in the third-tier since joining the Rams on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. In the eight league matches that he has participated in, Mendez-Laing has scored two goals whilst he has also completed 2.4 successful dribbles per fixture and has provided 1.5 key passes per game. Currently averaging a relatively impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.14 in League One, the former Sheffield Wednesday man could go on to play a major role in Derby’s push for promotion if he maintains his consistency.
