Everton handed another blow after latest injury news

Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images Calvert-Lewin has suffered a setback in his recovery from a thigh injury If you thought Abdoulaye Doucoure being out for a couple of months was going to be the only bad injury news for this week, then sadly you will be disappointed yet again. The Toffees have missed their two attacking stars Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison for a large part of this young season, and even though it looked for a brief moment that the pair would be back before the last international break, it’s only the Brazilian who is close to returning to the side. Everton announced earlier this week that they had appointed a new Rehabilitation Fitness Coach, and now it looks like Cristian Fernandez will have his hands full after the news today that Calvert-Lewin has suffered a setback in his recovery and now faces a few more weeks out. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a quadriceps injury and will remain out for a number of weeks. #EFC — Everton (@Everton) October 20, 2021 If anything, the verbiage of the tweet seems to indicate that the 24-year-old will be out for longer than just a fortnight. Richarlison however has been training individually and could even make a return this weekend against Watford, the side the Blues signed him from. Everton have mostly gotten by without the goalscoring contributions of the pair due to outstanding performances by Doucoure, Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend. However Rafa Benitez will be well aware that the shortcomings of other players like Salomon Rondon and Alex Iwobi will be pulling the team down, as we saw in the loss at home to West Ham last weekend, ending the Blues 100% record at Goodison Park. Here’s wishing DCL a swift recovery so that he can get back to what he does best, score for Everton.
