AC Milan are one of the giants of European football and now they’re going to try and sign a Nottingham Forest player.

If ever you want an indication as to how far Forest have come in the past two years, this is a good indication.

From competing for also-ran players who have served their whole careers in the EFL, Forest now have players wanted by the very best clubs.

Forest have signed a number of players since returning to the Premier League and once again it looks like being a busy summer.

At the moment, the majority of transfer links are regarding Forest players wanted by other clubs – with AC Milan now keen to take their chance on a City Ground midfielder.

AC Milan want Forest star Nicolas Dominguez

This one perhaps does come as a little bit of a surprise, given that Dominguez only signed for Forest last summer from Bologna.

According to Tuttosport, AC Milan are keen to revive their interest in the Argentinean after trying to get him last summer.

Forest were given Dominguez for £8.5 million, with Remo Freuler heading to Serie A on loan as part of the deal.

The 25-year-old has largely done a good job since he signed for the Reds, making 31 appearances in all competitions this season.

However, he’s started just 10 times in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo and perhaps he’s a player who the club fancy moving on.

Dominguez scored a memorable goal against Manchester United in December and he’s got three to his name in all competitions.

The report claims that Dominguez might seek to move back to Italy in search of more game time and that has alerted Milan to his availability.

Forest have decision to make over ‘fantastic’ star

It was TNT Sports lead commentator Darren Fletcher who previously called Dominguez ‘fantastic’ earlier in the season.

He’s got a point and now Forest are facing a bit of a decision over whether to sell him or not.

Forest should be mindful of their current situation in the middle of the park when considering doing business with AC Milan.

Ryan Yates and Ibrahim Sangare are deemed the enforcers who can break things up.

Danilo has reemerged from the shadows in recent weeks and has done well but right now, he’s the only one who really offers an attacking threat.

Dominguez also does that but he’s also got the tenacity and work rate of a Yates or Sangare type of player.

Forest will be at the mercy of financial fair play this summer and perhaps that would be the one logical reason why a sale does make sense.

Stats show why Forest have to be careful over Dominguez

Who Scored makes for interesting reading when it comes to Dominguez and the debate over a possible departure.

With 62 tackles this season, only Neco Williams has won more on 69 and he’s the highest-ranked midfielder in the squad in that sense.

Furthermore, he’s useful with the ball too, completing 673 passes – 74 more than Ryan Yates – over the course of the campaign.

This data essentially shows that Dominguez has performed well at both ends of the pitch for Forest this season.

If the money is right then perhaps Dominguez will leave but there is more to come from Dominguez at Forest.

Selling him does make financial sense but on the footballing side of things, the Copa America winner will definitely need replacing at Forest if Milan are successful in their chase.
