Stephen Warnock can't grasp 'identical' call involving Nottingham Forest and Kevin De Bruyne

Sky Sports News pundit Stephen Warnock can't understand why Nottingham Forest didn't get a penalty and Manchester City did at the weekend. The Reds were denied a spot-kick when Emmanuel Dennis was felled in the box by Keane Lewis Potter. In truth, it would have perhaps been harsh on the Brentford man but the inconsistencies are rife in the Premier League. Just 74 miles away in Manchester, Pep Guardiola's team were busy being awarded a penalty for a foul on Kevin De Bruyne. Dermot Gallagher was quizzed on whether or not he felt the penalty should have been awarded. He didn't think the Forest one was but claimed that the one awarded to City was a different type of incident. Warnock couldn't believe that sentiment and couldn't grasp why one was given and one wasn't. He told Ref Watch on Sky Sports News: They're exactly the same. It's a tap on the ankle and he's flung himself to the floor. For me, it's no different to what has happened to Dennis. They're identical. Warnock can't understand Forest penalty call VAR was supposed to rid the game of the consistencies among officials that have plagued the game for too long. Forest were hard done by at the weekend and on another day they might have been awarded three penalties. Warnock is renowned for going against pretty much everything that former Premier League ref Gallagher says. Ultimately, on this occasion, however, it seems as though he's got a point. For whatever reason, however, Lee Mason on VAR decided not to send Andre Marriner to the pitchside monitor. The Reds were also aggrieved when Ryan Yates and Morgan Gibbs-White were both also felled in the game. It was a truly shocking performance from a couple of experienced officials and even days after the game Forest will still feel sore.
