£43m forward faster than Mbappe now 'well ahead of Malen' on Arsenal summer wish-list - journalist

Arsenal have been linked with a host of attacking players ahead of what could be a crucial summer transfer window.

The Gunners, like most other Premier League clubs, didn’t do much business in the January window due to FFP constraints.

Therefore, we’re likely to see Arsenal make up for such a quiet January window when the summer market opens up.

The Gunners have enjoyed a superb season and remain firmly in contention for the Premier League title, but they’re not quite the finished product.

For instance, Mikel Arteta could do with bringing in world-class cover and competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings.

The likes of Donyell Malen, Pedro Neto and Nico Williams have been linked with a move to Arsenal over the past few months.

And now, Gunners-leaning journalist Charles Watts has provided an update on links between the north Londoners and the aforementioned trio.

What has Charles Watts said about trio of Arsenal wing targets?

Watts, writing on CaughtOffside, believes Neto and Williams are likely to be “well ahead of Malen” on the Arsenal summer wish-list.

“My understanding is that Arsenal are looking for a player who can operate in the wide positions,” wrote Watts.

“And Malen has obviously done very well since leaving north London in 2017 and going to PSV and then to Dortmund. But I would be surprised if he is a genuine option for Arsenal.

“What I do know is that they have a long-standing interest in Pedro Neto, while Nico Williams is also understood to be high up on their list of potential targets.

“I see players like those two well ahead of Malen in the pecking order when it comes to the summer.”

At just 21 years of age, Williams – who reportedly has a £43million release clause – has already made over 100 Athletic appearances, plus 13 Spain caps.

The La Roja talent has been labelled an "incredible" athlete, and there has been a suggestion that he is even faster than Kylian Mbappe.

Meanwhile, Neto is Premier League proven, having made 134 appearances for Wolves, though he somehow only has five Portugal caps to his name.

The £60million-rated 24-year-old is also “highly regarded as one of the best young talents of his generation”, and considering his efforts for Wolves, it’s an accurate assessment.

All three – Malen, Williams and Neto – are top players, and it’ll be exciting to see whether Arsenal push for at least one of them in the summer transfer window.
