Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has now shared his prediction for this weekend's huge tie against Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta will now begin to welcome one or two of his international players back from their respective countries as he looks to intensify preparations for the game.

The likes of Gabriel Jesus and Emile Smith Rowe remained with the club throughout the break, diligently training at London Colney.

And it will be interesting to see if any of those names, or the likes of Thomas Partey, have done enough to alter Arteta's XI when they head to the Etihad.

Of course, the biggest wait will be on the fitness of key trio, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Three automatic starters when fit, and three players who will be needed to overcome such a brilliant Pep Guardiola side.

That being said, John Hartson was choosing his winner when speaking on talkSPORT this morning.

It seems the attention has already switched from the internationals to this weekend's football, and Hartson admitted his prediction may not be a popular one.

John Hartson thinks Manchester City will be able to overcome Arsenal on Sunday

There didn't really seem to be a lot of doubt in Hartson's mind, who seemed to predict a typical City run that would probably see them win all of their last 10 league matches.

Hartson said: "I have to go City. I know I'm a former Arsenal man but I think it's really important that City try and get going on a run and try and get ahead of the other two."

Of course, it is still peculiar to think that Manchester City are in third place at this point of the season, all be it by a very fine margin.

Liverpool will be watching the game surely hoping for anything but a home win, given Jurgen Klopp will probably still rather chase down Arsenal despite their improvement.

Either way, it's going to be a fascinating few weeks, and Mikel Arteta will be so aware of how important avoiding defeat on Sunday could prove for Arsenal's mental belief.

It was a tough day for the club when Erling Haaland was running Rob Holding ragged at a similar point of last season.

And although John Hartson still thinks Arsenal will be disappointed this time around, Arteta's squad is now much better equipped to challenge City – as we saw earlier in the season.

All that being said, Andros Townsend has shared who he thinks will win the league this season.
